Sounds good, right? Early on, maybe, but you will quickly want to ditch it and learn to land yourself to be able to pull off way more dangerous and extreme stunts. What this system does, when left on, is correct your rider after a trick to make sure they will land safely. Master the manual landingīy default, Riders Republic will have an auto-landing system turned on. Thankfully you can swap back and forth between styles easily via the menu. Aside from some of the higher-level trick events, Trickster isn’t necessarily required for any events. However, once you get to grips with the game, you might want to experiment with Trickster more. Racer is a good choice when first learning the game since not having that camera control can feel quite awkward. But, with the stick now used for tricking, you won’t have that camera control. Instead of face buttons relating to tricks, you can use the analog sticks to pull off more intricate and creative tricks for way higher scores in trick events. You can still pull tricks off, but this style is clearly intended for making downhill and race events easier. Racer style essentially makes your character, and the camera, easier to control, but sacrifices your ability to directly choose what tricks you can do. Your choices are Racer or Trickster, but don’t sweat this decision too much. When you first load up into Riders Republic, one of the first options you will be presented with is what style you want your character to use. It can feel counterintuitive, but trust us, the brake is your most powerful tool. Winning a race isn’t about hitting top speed, but rather having the most consistent run. If you know a sharp turn is coming up, it can be wise to cut back on your speed early, brake around the turn, and cut it as close as possible. Even wingsuit and jetpack races will have moments where just trying to hold top speed will end up with you falling behind as you skid off-course.Īnticipate what’s coming ahead in a race. With 5 head presets and 6 similar hairstyles, prepare to see your character clone everywhere around you. To add on that are the ridiculous physics that allow you to land perfectly a 150Mph speeding bicycle while falling from a 100m cliff without a scratch, while barely touching a tree can send you face-down in the dirt. The trick mechanics get old very quick, as you can only perform a limited amount (spin vertical or horizontal). Fully maxed on 2.5k on an RTX3080Ti, everything feels and looks washed-out and no more than 720p in resolution, partly saved by a few beautiful nature shots that, when getting up-close, reveal how awfully detailed they are in reality. Possibly downgraded to the ground due to the online nature of the game. The graphics are borderline passable for today's standards. Riders Republic feels like a game from the early 2010s. Terrible voice acting, floating NPCs, janky robotic character movements, non-existent character creation and customization. An arcade-y game with no direction whatsoever.
